History

Abingdon was originally in the county of Berkshire until 1974 when under local government reorganisation, Abingdon became part of Oxfordshire and the seat of the new Vale of White Horse District Council.
Abingdon has some beautiful old buildings including the Abbey and the magnificent county hall and court house (now the museum) which can be viewed from the windows of our town flat, and was supposedly designed by Christopher Wren.
Abingdon is well known as the location of manufacture of MG cars (1929 - 1980), and was also home to the Morland Brewery, whose most famous ale Old Speckled Hen was named after an MG car. The site of the old brewery has now been redeveloped into apartment buildings.
